In the second phase, voting in 157 upazilas is on Tuesday

The Crime Desk: Voting in 157 upazilas in the second phase will be held tomorrow, Tuesday (May 21). Voting will continue continuously from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on this day. Elections will be held for the posts of chairman, general vice chairman, and reserved vice chairman in these upazilas.

Meanwhile, the campaign ended on Sunday (May 19) at midnight. Election equipment will be sent to the center starting today, Monday, May 20. Meanwhile, in the second phase, the government has declared a general holiday in the respective areas on the day of polling.

And in order to make the election free, fair, and peaceful, 457 platoon members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the respective upazilas. Public relations officer (media) of BGB headquarters last Sunday. The matter was informed in a press release signed by Shariful Islam.

Besides, a large number of members of law and order forces, including RAB, have entered the field. A force of 17 people will be deployed in plain polling stations, and 19 people will be deployed in vulnerable centers. This number may increase in remote and mountainous areas. And there will be one executive magistrate in each union to look after the election code of conduct.

According to EC sources, all preparations for the second phase of elections are final. Since yesterday, one judicial magistrate has been entering the field in 157 upazilas. They will be on duty for a total of five days before and after the polls. Besides, one executive magistrate will be engaged with mobile and striking forces, especially with each mobile team of BGB.

Incidentally, the Election Commission has decided to conduct the Sixth Upazila Parishad election in four phases. The first phase of the election was held on May 8. Apart from this, the voting will be held tomorrow on May 21st, May 29th, the 3rd phase, and June 5th, the last phase. There are now 495 upazilas in the country.

Earlier, after the upazila parishad was introduced in 1985, voting was held on a single day in 1990 and 2009. In 2014, the fourth upazila election was held in six phases, and in 2019, the fifth upazila parishad was voted in five phases.
