Babar of the Chittagong Everest Summit

After 11 years, a Bangladeshi has achieved the feat of conquering Everest. Babar Ali aims to conquer not only Everest but also the fourth peak of the world, the Himalayan Lotz. He is supposed to have set out on his way to Lotz at midnight. If he conquers it, he will be the first Bangladeshi to conquer two mountain peaks at the same summit. Dr. Farhan Zaman, chief coordinator of Babar Ali’s Everest expedition, told the media that after conquering Everest, Babar will come down to Base Camp-4 and rest. At night, he will travel to Lotze Peak. Farhan expressed optimism about reaching his Lotze peak early this morning.

Vertical Dreamers, the coordinator of Babar’s expedition, wrote on their Facebook page: Babar is the first from Chittagong, although five Bangladeshis have conquered Everest before. So people in Chittagong are excited about his victory.

Many people’s timelines on Facebook are now floating in praise of Babar Ali. 34-year-old Babar Ali is a doctor by profession. He took an MBBS degree as a 51st batch student at Chittagong Medical College. He worked as a public health officer for some time but quit his job due to a lack of leave during the campaign in the mountains. Basically, he got addicted to mountain climbing. On his Facebook, he introduced himself like this: “Doctor by profession, mountaineer by addiction.” Because of this addiction, Babur has not yet had time to get married.

The second child, Babar, was born on October 16, 1990, among the four children of former Kuwaiti expatriate Leyaqat Ali and housewife Lutfunnahar Begum of the house of Badsha Mia Sipahi of Ward No. 15 of Burishchhar Union No. 15 of Hathajari. His elder brother, Barrister Mamun Ali, lives in Australia with the family. Younger sister Hamimun Tanzin is Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar. Younger brother Amir Ali is the merchant development executive of Bikash.

Babar Ali started trekking 14 years ago. Since 2010, he has used to trek in the hills of Chittagong Hill Tracts. He is the founding member of the Chittagong Mountaineering Club, Vertical Dreamers. For this club, since 2014, he has regularly gone on expeditions to various peaks of the Himalayas. In 2014, he became the first person from Chittagong to reach the summit of Kyanjin Ri (15,682 feet) from Nepal. That year, he conquered Sargo Ri (16,371 ft) and Surya Peak (16,880 ft). In 2016, he conquered Mount Yanam (20,066 feet) in India.

In 2017, he trained in basic mountaineering at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India. That year, he climbed Mount Fabrang (20,250 feet) in India. In 2019, he conquered Mount CCKN (20,680 ft), Mount Shiva (20,150 ft), and Mount Ramjak (20,728 ft) in India. In 2022, he became the first Bangladeshi from Nepal to climb Ama Dablam (22,349 feet), one of the most inaccessible and technical peaks of the Himalayas. The following year, 2023, conquered Nepal’s Chulu Far-East (19,879 feet) and Chulu East (21,601 feet). After one year yesterday, he won the Everest of the Himalayas.
