21 shops were burned in Dighinala

Khagrachari Correspondent: 21 shops were burned down in Dighinala, Khagrachari. This incident took place in the Kathan Bagan area of Merung Union of Upazila at 12:30 PM on Tuesday. Fire service brought the fire under control in two incidents.

Merung Union Chairman Mahmuda Begum Lucky said the fire started around noon while charging the battery of an Easybike or TomTom. In no time, the fire spread around. A trader’s flower broom was burned to ashes. He suffered a loss of at least 10 lakh rupees. Besides, the fire has caused a loss of at least 1 crore rupees.

On receiving information, two units of fire service joined to control the fire. However, it takes more time to put out the fire as there is no source of water in the vicinity.

Dighinala Fire Service Assistant Station Officer Rubel Tripura said, “The fire started from an electrical short circuit. 21 shops were completely burned down. As there was no water nearby, water had to be brought from a distance through pipe lines to bring the fire under control. The fire was brought under control in about 2 hours. The fire caused a loss of Rs 1 crore.
