Own Correspondent: There has been heavy monsoon rain and Kalboishakhi storms in 15 upazilas of the metropolis and district. As a result of the rain, waterlogging has occurred in various parts of the city. As a result, people’s sufferings reach their peak when they return home after the whole day’s work. According to the Meteorological Department, Chittagong has recorded 32 mm of rainfall today. Which is the highest this season.
Meanwhile, trees were uprooted in various parts of the city due to the storm. Members of the fire service were seen working to remove the trees in those areas.
Kalboishakhi storm started in Chittagong at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 6. Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds. Locals reported hailstorms in Mirsrai.
People traveling on the road said that due to heavy rains, EPZ of Chittagong city, Saltgola, Bandar, Nimtala, Barik Building, Agrabad, Chaumuhani, Dewanhat, Agrabad, GEC, Gate No. 2, Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, New Bridge, Kapasgola, Chawkbazar, Panchlaish, Firingibazar, Kotwali, Chaktai, Baklia, Sadarghat, Patenga, and Halishahar all the roads are submerged under 4 to 5 feet of water.
Traffic congestion has spread to Akhtaruzzaman flyover due to waterlogging in Muradpur and gate number two areas of the city. Hundreds of vehicles were seen stuck on the flyover.
Nur Uddin, the official of the Khulshi Power Distribution Department of the city, said that due to heavy rain and strong wind, the transformer connected to two electric poles in the city broke down on the road. Accidents did not occur due to disconnection. People in the electricity department are working on the spot.
Meghnath Tanchangya, Meteorological Officer of Chittagong’s Patenga Meteorological Department, said 32 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the city till 6 p.m. today. This is the first heavy rain of this season.
