BGB has handed over 288 people, including BGP members, four army personnel, and immigration personnel, who took refuge in Bangladesh to the border guarding forces of Myanmar.
Shariful Islam said that on the occasion of the handover of BGP members, a meeting was held with the delegation of Myanmar Border Guard Police and the delegation of BGB near BIWTA Ghat in Cox’s Bazar. Later, a Coast Guard vessel left the BIWTA wharf at Cox’s Bazar for the Myanmar vessel Chin Duin.
So far this year, more than 600 asylum-seeking members of Myanmar’s BGP and military forces have been given shelter and returned on humanitarian grounds. The BGB authorities have provided humanitarian assistance to Myanmar BGPs, army personnel, and others who have taken refuge, and their repatriation has been arranged through the Ministry of External Affairs through a bilateral initiative.
