The new chairman of CDA is freedom fighter Muhammad Yunus

The Crime Desk: Awami League national committee member Mohammad Yunus has been appointed as the chairman of the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA). This appointment was given in a notification of the contract and foreign recruitment wing of the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday.

Mohammad Yunus will replace the present chairman of CDA, M Zahirul Alam, as Dolphin Dolphin. City Awami League vice president Dolphin’s term as chairman ends on Wednesday.

Mohammad Yunuch, who is known to be close to the late ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the politics of Chittagong, is the Secretary General of Victory Mela Parishad in Chittagong.

Wednesday’s notification, signed by Bhaskar Debnath, Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration, said, “According to Section 7 of the Chittagong Development Authority Act, 2018, Mohammad Yunush has been appointed as Chairman of the Chittagong Development Authority for a period of three years from the date of his joining on the condition of severing working relationships with other institutions and organizations.” It happened. This office order was issued in the public interest by order of the President.”

Since 2009, the government has been giving political appointments to the post of CDA chairman. Abduch Chalam, treasurer of the Nagar Awami League and currently Member of Parliament of Boalkhali-Chandgaon Constituency, was appointed as the first CDA Chairman of Seva.

Abduch Chalam was the chairman for 10 consecutive years. Then, on April 18, 2019, vice president of the Nagar Awami League, Zahirul Alam Dobash Dolphin, was appointed chairman. Dolphin was then again appointed for a second term of three years on April 24, 2021.

Mohammad Yunuch, who joined BCL at the school level, served in various positions in the BCL and Awami League.

He was the president of the Chittagong Municipal High School Chhatra League in 1968–69. In 1970, he became the deputy general secretary of the city Chhatra League. On March 2, 1971, Muhammad Yunus was one of the few student leaders who burned the national flag of Pakistan at Laldighi Ground in the city.

On March 27, 1971, after the first clash with Pakistani naval commandos in Chittagong city, Yunus was arrested with a rifle. After enduring torture for about two months, Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Mohammad Yunus escaped from Chittagong prison and went to India. After guerrilla training there, he returned to the country and participated in the liberation war.

Mohammad Yunus was arrested in Dhaka on September 12 of that year while fighting the resistance war in 1976 after the killing of Bangabandhu and his family. From 1980–82, he was the president of the Chittagong City Chhatra League. He became a member of the North District Awami League Executive Committee in 1988.

9 months in 1970, 2 months and 6 days in 1971, and four years from 1976, Mohammad Yunus was imprisoned in prison.

Mohammad Yunus was one of the organizers of the 445-day continuous movement of civil society in Chittagong against the initiative of setting up a private hospital in the last CRB.
