The Prime Minister arrived in Thailand

International Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arrived in Thailand. Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin was accorded a warm red carpet welcome as she arrived in Bangkok today on a six-day official visit to Thailand.

When the Prime Minister arrived at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport at 1:08 PM local time, she was received by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul. He was given a guard of honor and a 19-round gun salute at the airport.

Minister-in-Attendance of Thailand Puangpet Chunlaid, Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Makawadi Sumitmore, and Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Mohammad Abdul Hai were present at the airport.

Earlier, the Prime Minister left Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at 10:13 am today on a six-day official visit as part of a bilateral and multilateral visit.

During her visit from April 24 to 29, Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral meetings with Thai Prime Minister Thavisin and attend the 80th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP). Bangladesh and Thailand will sign several cooperation documents, including a letter of interest, to negotiate a free trade agreement between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that visa exemption for government passport holders, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on energy cooperation, and two more memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the tourism sector and mutual cooperation on customs are likely to be signed between Bangladesh and Thailand to expand relations.

Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin will officially welcome Sheikh Hasina on April 26, and she will be given a formal guard of honor. On the same day, Sheikh Hasina will hold a private and bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Thavisin at Government House (Prime Minister’s Office). This time, the two leaders will attend the document signing ceremony and hold a joint press conference.

Later, Sheikh Hasina will attend the state lunch organized by the Thai Prime Minister in honor of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. During the visit, the Prime Minister will be accompanied by a royal audience of Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajira-Klaucha-Uuya and Queen Suthida Vajrasudha-Bimal-Lakshana at the palace. In a busy schedule, the Prime Minister will attend and address the 80th session of UNCAP on April 25.

On the same day, UN Under-Secretary-General and ESC Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjabana will meet with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is scheduled to return home on April 29.
