Dhaka Bureau: The Internet has been slow across the country for the last four days as the repair work on the submarine cable (CM-U-5) cut in the sea area of Indonesia has not been completed. Internet users are suffering as a result.

According to Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC), it may take about a month to complete the repair work of submarine cable (C-MI-5). As a result, internet users may suffer for a long time.

Saidur Rahman, General Manager (Operation and Maintenance) of the company, said that the C-MI-5 cable was cut in the sea area of Indonesia last Friday midnight. Their administrative work there takes a little more time. All in all, they said, the work can be done by the third or fourth week of next month.

Internet bandwidth across the country comes mainly through two submarine cables running through the deep sea. Bangladesh’s first submarine cable C-MI-4 landing station is at Cox’s Bazar. And for the second submarine, only C-MI-5 entered through Kuakata.

A BSCPLC press release on Saturday said the second submarine cable suddenly severed 440 km west of Singapore at 12 p.m.

The press release also said that although the service through that cable has been stopped, internet services are currently being maintained in the country through C-MI-4 submarine cable and ITC companies.
