Dhaka Bureau: Bangladesh has signed five agreements and five memoranda of understanding (MOU) with Middle Eastern country Qatar to advance cooperation in various fields, including investment, employment, and port management.
These agreements and MoUs were signed in the presence of Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina at the Shimul Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tenggawe, Dhaka, on Tuesday (April 23).
The State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and the Minister of the concerned department, on behalf of Bangladesh, signed these agreements and MoUs.
The agreements are a cooperation agreement in legal matters, a mutual investment development and protection agreement, a double taxation avoidance and prevention agreement, a maritime transport agreement, and an agreement regarding the formation of a joint business council between the two countries.
The MoUs are: MoU to increase cooperation in diplomatic training; MoU to increase cooperation in youth and sports; MoU on labor force and employment; MoU to increase cooperation in higher education and scientific research sectors; and MoU on port management.
Earlier, the Emir of Qatar had a bilateral meeting with him at the Prime Minister’s office.
