Dhaka Bureau: Increase in bulk electricity prices will not have any impact at the consumer level right now. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this while talking to reporters in his office at the Secretariat on Monday (November 21).
He said, “We don’t think there is any concern about it (increase in bulk prices) as it will not have any impact at the consumer level at the moment. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) hiked bulk electricity prices by 19.92% the previous day.
Nasrul Hamid said, “Customer-level analysis is underway. Along with the cost of power generation, the price of oil and gas has gone up. Therefore BERC has announced a review for price adjustment”.
He also said that it is not possible to assess how much impact it will have at the customer level at the moment. Bulk electricity prices increased by 19.92%.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said, “This is a time-consuming matter. Because we want uninterrupted power supply. We would like to adjust the price. It may not be right now. But in future, BERC will consider increasing it (at the consumer level). It will be up to BERC whether there is a need to increase the price at the consumer level or not. For now, the prices are not increasing at the consumer level.
Regarding the power supply situation, the state minister said, “We have coordinated the supply now. We hope to move towards a better situation. Deficit is gradually being adjusted.”BERC hiked bulk electricity prices by 19.92% to 6.20 kWh from 5.17 kWh earlier. The new tariff will be effective from December.
