Dhaka Bureau: There is no fear of any militant attack on Pahela Boishakh. Despite this, maximum security has been ensured due to repeated attacks on Paola Baishakh, Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Habibur Rahman said.
The DMP Commissioner said these things when he came to see the security system of Ramna Botmul on Saturday (April 13). He said, for the sake of security, all Boishakh events should be completed by evening. CTTC’s bomb disposal unit, SWAT, and other units of DMP conducted security drills.
The Commissioner said, keeping in mind the terrorist attack in Ramna Botmul in 2001, that extra security is taken every time. Although there is no threat of attack, maximum security has been created to ensure safety.
The DMP Commissioner said Pahela Boishakh is an expression of the non-communal spirit of Bengali ethnicity. Because of this, the organization has been hit repeatedly. There has been a terrorist attack. So keeping everything in mind, the security plan is arranged. But so far, there is no specific threat of attack.
He said that on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh Bengali New Year, the day will be celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country. Various events will be organized by various organizations in Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan, Dhaka University, Ramna Botmule, Sangsad Bhavan area, Hatirjheel, Rabindra Sarobar, and other places. A comprehensive plan has been taken by DMP for all the events.
He said the event area will be monitored by CCTV security. Besides, the surrounding areas will be monitored through watchtowers and drones. The entire area will be swept by special equipment and the DMP’s dog squad. Work has already started. Bomb disposal units will be on standby. Ramana entrance will be searched through archway metal detectors. DB, SB, and other intelligence agency personnel will be active inside and outside in white clothes. You will have access to Ramana Park until 5 p.m. After that, no one can enter.
He said the tourist police team will be there to help the tourists, and the and the naval police team, medical team, lost and found center, and blood donation booth will be there in the lake. Besides, free drinking water will be provided by DMP.
