Dhaka Bureau: The driver and supervisor of Itishah Paribahan were killed after passengers were beaten up for demanding an extra fare at Ashulia in Savar. They died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Fazilatunnecha Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital in Kashimpur, Gazipur, on Monday (April 8). Earlier in the afternoon, the beating incident took place on Ashulia’s Nabinagar-Chandra highway in the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ).
The deceased are bus driver Sohel Rana Babu (26) of Tongi area of Gazipur and Hriday (30) of Phulpur area of Mymensingh, supervisor of the same bus. They were currently living in Mirpur, the capital.
According to the police, the passengers got into an argument with the bus driver, Sohel Rana Babu, and supervisor, Hridoy, on the Itishah Paribahan leaving from Mirpur in the capital to collect extra fare ahead of Eid. At one point, some agitated passengers beat up Babu and Rana. Two people were admitted to Sheikh Fazilatunnecha Hospital in Kashimpur, Gazipur, with serious injuries. They died in the night while undergoing treatment there. However, the helper on the bus escaped.
The chairman of Itishah Paribahan, Delwar Hossain, told journalists that both the driver and the helper died. As far as I know, EPZ had trouble there. The driver and the helper were injured after being beaten up by several youths and were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition, where they died. The incident of the beating occurred due to a dispute over the additional rent.
Ashulia Police Inspector (Investigation), Md. Masudur Rahman, said the body has been recovered. Legal action is being taken in this incident.
