Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: The police have arrested the main accused in the death of a Bonbeat official who was crushed by a drum truck of Pahar Khekode while trying to stop soil smuggling at Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar. Bappi, the main accused in the murder of forest officer Sajjad, who was hiding in Chittagong, was arrested by a team of Ukhiya police station.

It is to be noted that around 3:30 am on Sunday (March 31), a group of mountain climbers were cutting and smuggling soil in the Harinmara area of Rajapalang Union of Ukhia Upazila. After receiving the news, the officer of Dochidri Bit of the Forest Department said: Sajjaduzzaman Sajal, along with some forest workers, went to the spot. At that time, he and two motorcycle riders were crushed by a dump truck belonging to the traffickers. Sajjaduzzaman died on the spot, and a forest guard named Mohammad Ali was injured.
In this incident, on Monday (April 1) afternoon, the Ukhia Regna officer of the Forest Department, Gazi Shafiul Alam, named 10 people as the plaintiffs and filed a murder case against 15 people.
The defendants in the case are Mohammad Kashem’s son and a dumper truck driver from the West Harinmara area of Rajapalang Union of Ukhia Upazila. Bappi (23), Sultan Ahmed’s son Chayed Alam alias Kana Chayed (40) of the same area and his son Md. Tarek (20), Helal Uddin (27) son of Nurul Alam Maizza of Tuturbil area of Rajapalong Union, Chayed Karim (35) son of deceased Abdul Aziz of Harinmara area, Anwar Islam (35) son of Abdul Aziz of the same area, Shah Alam (35) son of Abdur Rahim. , Hijlia area’s son Md. Babul (50), son of Farid Alam alias Farid driver of the same area. Rubel (24) and Kamal Uddin Driver (39), son of Shah Alam of the Harinmara area.
Anonymous and five or six people have been accused in the case. Accused No. 5 Chayed Karim (35) has been arrested among them. And nine days after the murder, the main accused in the case was arrested.
The deceased Sajjaduzzaman Sajal (30) was in charge of the Beat Officer of Dochhari Forest Beat in the Ukhia Range of Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division. He is the son of Mohammad Shahjahan of Ghazaria upazila in Munshiganj district.
Forest guard Mohammad Ali (27), who was injured in the incident, is the son of Abul Magnoor of the Jhimongkhali area of the Hnila union of Teknaf upazila.
OC Shamim Hossain said that on April 1, the ranger filed a complaint with the police station naming 10 people and accusing 15 people in the incident of the death of an officer of Ukhia Regna of the Forest Department. Later, the police registered the case. Two people, including the main accused, have been arrested in this incident.
It is to be noted that after the first janaza at the divisional forest office on March 31, the deceased Sajal was taken to his home in Ghazaria, Munshiganj. After reaching there, he was buried in the family cemetery after the second Janaza after the Esha prayer. After that, his colleagues formed a long human chain from the front of the Divisional Forest Office to the Shaheed Minar and demanded the quick arrest and punishment of the killers.
