Moulvibazar Correspondent: Three officials of Palli Vidyut Samity (POBIS) have been temporarily suspended due to neglect of duty in the death of six members of the same family due to electrocution in Moulvibazar Juri. An employee has been fired in this incident.

ABM Mizanur Rahman, General Manager of Moulvibazar Regional Office of Rural Electricity, confirmed the matter on Wednesday (April 3).

The suspended officials are Sohel Rana Chowdhury, Deputy General Manager of Baralekha Office of Rural Electricity; Ashraful Huda, Assistant General Manager; and Rezaul Karim Talukder, Incharge of Juri Office. On the other hand, apprentice lineman. Ashiq is fired.

ABM Mizanur Rahman, General Manager of Moulvibazar Regional Office of Rural Electrification, said that a 5-member committee headed by Chief Engineer Biswanath Shikder was formed by the REB of the Rural Electrification Board to investigate the cause of the accident. Committee members visit the site and submit the report within 3 working days. In view of the recommendations of the committee members, disciplinary action was taken against four officers and employees.

He also said that the letter signed by Ekramul Hasan, Director of the Human Resource Department of the Rural Electrification Board (REB), informed him about taking disciplinary action against four officials and employees.

On investigation, it is known that Faizur Rahman (50), a day laborer with speech impediment, lived with his family members for five-six years by building a tin house on the land of a person named Rahmat Ali in East Goalbari village of Goalbari union of the upazila. An 11,000-volt power line was strung over his house.

In the early morning of March 26, a storm and lightning struck the residence, and the entire tin house was electrified by breaking the electric wire. Five family members—Faizur Rahman (50), his wife Shiri Begum (45), his daughter Samia (15), Sabina (9), and his only son Sayem Uddin (7)—died on the spot. The next day, Faizur Rahman’s younger daughter, Sonia Akhter (8), who was injured in the incident, died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
