Barisal Correspondent: In the specialized Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SEBMC) Hospital, the only hope for crores of people in the southern region, corruption and irregularities are going on openly by capitalizing on various crises. Since the important equipment for diagnosis has been broken for years, the patients are constantly being destitute by taking more expensive tests from outside on the advice of doctors and officials. The revenue from the experiments conducted in Shebachim does not go to the government coffers.

Prolonged investigations have revealed that government revenue is being siphoned off from the second-floor deposit counter of the hospital for pathological tests. Although this looting continued for a long time, there was no surveillance by the authorities. Recently, after the leak of the matter, a newly hired assistant director in charge of pathology and several class IV employees were caught red-handed, but the hospital authorities did not take any major decisions on them until yesterday, Wednesday. However, the director of the hospital, Saiful Islam, said that the matter would be investigated with the transfer of the accused to the ward. The conscious people of Barisal are shocked that no immediate disciplinary action was taken against the culprits even after they were caught red-handed in the case of embezzlement of government revenue.

Anti-Corruption Commission (DUPRAC) Barisal district president and educationist Professor Shah Sajeda said, ‘The picture of various irregularities in the hospital can be seen when you go there.

But if immediate action is not taken against the government revenue embezzlers, they will become more reckless. At present, patients and their relatives are subjected to harassment in the treatment-related work of this hospital. If the superiors are delaying him regarding irregularities and corruption, then where else can we go?’ He requested the urgent intervention of the health department of the government in this regard.

Investigation revealed that the money was paid for the examination of the patients, but it was embezzled without depositing it in the account. And for this, fake or fake receipts are used for payment. A copy of that receipt is also provided to the payer concerned. Recently, several such fakes have been reported. Among them, everything got leaked because he took money from the patient and gave a receipt but did not give his report. Then the newly hired assistant director (administration), Dr. Rezwanur Alam, caught two fourth graders of the hospital red-handed in front of the women’s counter of the pathology department of the hospital last Sunday around 11 a.m..

It is known that baby Eva (six) came from Muladi to Shebachim Hospital for treatment last March. Eva’s father. Rubel said that after coming to the hospital, Eva was admitted to the children’s ward by the doctor in charge. At this time, the doctor gave the baby Eva various blood tests and x-rays. The patient’s bill comes to 1,460 taka. He paid, but no receipt was given to him. Not only the child Eva, but many people, including Abdus Sattar of Banaripara, Sufia Begum of Gournadi, and Hena Begum of Barisal Charbaria, did not get Rashid. The investigation also revealed that many of the technologists were forging seals and giving false reports to hospital pathology staff. Recently, one day after noon, when more than a hundred patients came to the male counter for examination, only 20 or 25 people were given receipts. The cycle is dishonest, as the others are tested without receipt.

Several employees, who did not want to be named, said that the distribution of these funds goes up to the upper floors, so those who are caught are temporarily moved to another hospital. Later, after the aftermath of the incident, the unscrupulous gang started working again in the old place.
