The government named 247 government primary schools as ‘Ruchisheel’

Dhaka Bureau: The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has changed the names of 247 government primary schools that have negative connotations. This information was provided in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry Mohammad Kabir Uddin on Wednesday (April 3).

According to the notification, the name of Khasitana High School in Koira, Khulna has been changed to Udayan Government Primary School, Damurhuda Patachora Government Primary School in Chuadanga has been changed to Chayabithi Government Primary School, Sirajdikhan Chormarddan Boys Government Primary School in Munshiganj has been renamed Gyanpradip Chormarddan Boys Government Primary School and Chormarddan Girls Government Primary School was renamed as Zamindarbari Chormarddan Boys Government Primary School, Godagacha Government Primary School in Lalpur Upazila of Natore was changed to Salampur Government Primary School, Chormara Government Primary School in Kazipur Upazila of Sirajganj was changed to Matrichaya Government Primary School, Chuldhari Government Primary School in the same upazila was renamed. Phulchari Government Primary School and Bhandgram Government Primary School in Thakurgaon Ranishankail Upazila have been changed to Varnamala Government Primary School, and the names of verbal and negative schools have been changed here.

Earlier, on January 19, last year, the ministry issued Policy 2023 on Naming and Changing Existing Names of Government Primary Schools.

At that time, Primary and Mass Education Secretary Farid Ahmed said that many of the names of government primary schools spread in different parts of the country have negative connotations. Which hinders the child’s taste, thinking, sense, and sophisticated growth. That’s why the ministry has decided to change the names of these schools to be beautiful, tasteful, melodious, and befitting local history and culture, including famous people and brave freedom fighters. Such negative connotation names will be changed in phases across the country.

According to the latest annual report of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, there are 65,565 government primary schools in the country. The number of students in these is 2 crore, 5 lakh, 46 thousand, and 91 people. There are 3 lakh, 62 thousand, and 709 teachers.
