Bandarban Correspondent: Sonali Bank Manager was abducted almost 14 hours after the attack on the administration building and bank robbery in Ruma Upazila of Bandarban. Nizam Uddin could not be rescued.
On Wednesday (April 3) morning, Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahjahan told the media that efforts are underway to rescue the bank manager.
Mentioning that the operation is continuing, the OC said that efforts are continuing. However, it has not yet been possible to rescue it.
According to local sources, the employees of the Ruma Upazila branch of Sonali Bank went to pray after Iftar on Tuesday. Armed men attacked the bank at around 8:30 p.m. A group of them entered the mosque of the complex building and closed the door. At that time, many bank officials and other worshipers were offering tarabi prayers in the mosque. The terrorists captured everyone and took their mobile phones.
At that time, four members of the Ansar who were on guard seized their weapons and tied them up. Then they entered the bank, broke the locker, and looted the money. Besides looting money from the bank, the terrorists kidnapped the manager.
AC (Land) Didarul Alam, who is in charge of the area, told the media that members of Kuki-chin, a new terrorist organization in the hills, may be involved in the bank robbery.
The terrorists looted the arms and ammunition of law enforcement forces (Police and Ansar VDP) engaged in the security of the bank. They looted two SMGs and 60 rounds of ammunition from the police, eight Chinese rifles and 320 rounds of ammunition, and four shotguns and 35 rounds from the Ansar.
Regional Director of Sonali Bank Bandarban Region Osman Gani said that their Ruma branch manager, Nizam Uddin, was taken away by robbers. After this incident, security has been increased in all branches of the bank in the Bandarban region.
