Dhaka Bureau: A new decision has been taken on the price of fuel oil. According to the pricing formula, the government has fixed the price of gasoline, octane, and diesel in coordination with the world market.
According to the new decision, the current price of diesel and kerosene has been reduced by 225 paisa to 106 taka per liter from 108 taka 25 paisa. Octane prices remain unchanged at Tk 126 and petrol at Tk 126 per liter.
On Sunday (March 31), the government announced the new price of fuel oil. In a press release, the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources said that the new prices will be effective on April 1.
On February 29, the government announced the automatic pricing of fuel oil. In continuation of this, the announcement of the price adjustment of fuel oil according to the first pricing formula was published on March 7.
It may be noted that the price of diesel and kerosene was reduced by 75 paise per liter in the announced price for March. Besides, the price of octane was reduced from Tk 130 to Tk 126. And the price of petrol was reduced from 125 taka to 122 taka.
The guidelines defining the formula for automatic pricing of fuel oil were published on February 29. It is said that the octane and gasoline used in the country are mostly used in private vehicles. So in reality, octane and petrol are always priced higher than diesel as luxury items.
The government organization BPC always makes profit by selling octane and petrol. Basically, the profit and loss of BPC depend on diesel. 75 percent of the fuel used in the country is diesel. BPC adjusts the price of jet fuel used in aircraft and furnace oil used in power plants regularly. And the prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol, and octane are determined by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources.
