Panchagarh Correspondent: A mentally unstable mother sold her one-month-old baby girl in the market in Panchagarh. He sold the child for 2500 rupees. Later, the mother took her child back again. This incident has created a sensation in the area.
The incident took place on Monday (March 25) afternoon in the Medicine Road area of Panchagarh city. The identity of the mentally unstable mother was not immediately known. However, a video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Locals say that the woman’s house is in Atwari Upazila of the district. Being mentally unbalanced, he wanders around in different markets.
In the video, a woman is selling a one-month-old baby girl on her lap for two and a half thousand rupees. An old man is seen buying the child by bargaining. At one point, the person took the child in his arms with money.
Locals said that the woman, suddenly mentally unbalanced, raised the price to sell her child. After that, Ismail Hossain, a mechanic in the city’s truck terminal area, bought the child for two and a half thousand rupees. Sometime after the sale, the unbalanced woman took the child back.
When Ismail Hossain was contacted in this regard, he said, I work as a mechanic. While doing the market, I saw that girl saying that she would sell her baby. One of my nieces has no children. I want to buy the baby from her for 2000 rupees for that niece. If the girl asks for more money, give her 500 taka more and keep the baby in her arms. On the way back home, the girl ran, took the child back, and returned the money.
When contacted, Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zakir Hossain said, “We are not aware of the matter.” Still, I informed the social service officer to look into the matter.
