The Crime Desk: The burial of five people who were killed in the same family due to electric shock in Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar has been completed after the funeral prayers.
The deceased are Faizur Rahman (50), his wife Shiri Begum (45), his daughter Samia (15), Sabina (9), and his son Sayem (7). Their daughter, Sonia Akhter (12), was injured in this incident. He was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital after his first treatment at Upazila Health Complex.
It is known that Faizur and his family wanted to get an electricity connection at home recently. The meter was also installed in the house. Everyone was very happy with this. Due to poverty, he was arranging everything little by little. But speech-impaired Faizur Rahman lost his life in his family after being struck by this lightning of a dream. The house was no longer lit by electricity. Before that, eternal darkness came into their lives.
On Tuesday (March 26) at 4 p.m., the funeral prayers of the deceased were held at the local school grounds in the Bhangar Par area of Nijgram East Goalbari. Moulvibazar district administration, district police superintendent, along with Upazila chairman, Upazila administration, Thana police, and chairman of various unions, were present in it. Thousands of people attended their funeral.
Five members of the same family were electrocuted in the early hours of Tuesday morning when an electric wire broke inside the house.
Neighbors of the deceased said that Faizur Rahman was a speech impediment. He had recently installed a meter to connect his house. Another neighbor bought the meter due to his poor financial condition.
Some of the eyewitnesses said that on Tuesday morning, he got the news that he was electrocuted at Faizur Rahman’s house. Later, he came to the spot and found the dead bodies of Faizur and his wife and children. A shadow of grief has descended on the area due to the untimely deaths of five members of the same family.
Moulvibazar Police Super. Manjur Rahman said that it is believed that due to last night’s storm and rain, the lightning fell on the electric wire and the whole house was electrified. The power line that fell here is an 11,000 KV line. And the house is located just below the power line. Such incidents are sad. At this time, the Superintendent of Police also urged the public to be careful about using electricity.

Juri Upazila Chairman Vir Muktijodha MA Moeed Farooq said that such an accident happened today due to the negligence of rural electricity. We are saddened by this incident. All the rural electricity lines should be insulated immediately so that no such accidents happen again. If rural electricity does not make insulated lines in my Juri upazila, then I will not put rural electricity lines in Juri.
Ruel Uddin, Chairman of Purbjuri Union Parishad, said that the deceased Faizur Rahman was a speech-impaired person. He, along with five members of his family, died on the spot. This incident happened due to the negligence of rural electricity. If the more dangerous rural power lines are not moved above people’s houses, more such incidents may occur.
ABM Mizanur Rahman, general manager of the Palli Bidyut Moulvibazar office, visited the scene and said, “We are saddened by the deaths of five people. We will support the treatment of the child who was injured in this incident.
