Chandnaish Correspondent: The criminal activity of hill terrorists has increased in several unions in Chandnaish upazila of Chittagong, along with Dhopachari, Dohazari, Hashimpur, Kanchanabad, and neighboring Satkania upazilas. Due to their fear, the people of the area, including the administration, are scared, alarmed, and anxious.
In the early hours of March 23, while organizing crime and terrorist activities from the Dhopachari Camppara area of the upazila, the angry crowd arrested 4 people, including 2 at night and 2 more in the morning, when they ran away after being chased by the mob. Later, local member Mozammel Haque is said to have released the detainees for mysterious reasons.
Local member Mozammel Haque said the first two people were detained and beaten up by an angry mob in front of my office. Among them, one is from West Patia Shikalbahar, the other is from Pahari of Bandarban, one of the two arrested in the morning is from Barua, and the other is Pahari. They run away out of sight. When the family was contacted after knowing their identity, they said they were not terrorists.
Locals said that after seeing a group of mountain terrorists coming in a speed boat late at night in the Baitarni area, the locals called the mike of the mosque and chased them. They are said to have come to hand over liquor consignments on the river route. Later, after the arrest, Dhopachari called the police outpost several times, but as no one came, their relatives were called and released. On the other hand, various questions are swirling in the public’s mind due to the arrest and release of Paharis after this incident. Everyone is talking differently. The Chandnaish police station officer in charge, Obaidul Islam, said that he does not know anything about this.
SI Anwar Hossain, in charge of the Dhopachari police outpost, said that a group of policemen were chasing hillbillies along with common people at night. He said he did not know what happened after Seheri came to eat.
Regarding the matter, UP Chairman Abdul Alim said that he heard about the incident locally. He does not know why he released the terrorists instead of handing them over to the law. Requested that the concerned authorities investigate the matter and take action.
