The Crime Desk: Any type of research grant received by universities, colleges, or research institutes has been given tax-free benefits, subject to certain conditions.

NBR Chairman Abu Hena. In an order signed by Rahmatul Munim, instructions were issued recently for this facility. The order will come into force immediately and will remain in force until the fiscal year 2026-2027.

According to the order, any type of research grant received from any institution outside Bangladesh for conducting research at a university, college, or research institution is excluded from the calculation of the total income of that university, college, or research institution, subject to certain conditions. Conditions: The concerned university, college, or research institute should obtain an exemption certificate from the National Board of Revenue in support of tax exemption. Such an initiative by NBR will encourage researchers to do more work as well as help in building a knowledge-based country, the sector stakeholders believe.
