Dhaka Bureau: Students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University clashed with local residents over allegations of serving substandard food in Iftar. This incident happened on Sunday (March 17) at midnight. The clash erupted over allegations that rotten and boiled purple items were found in iftar items bought from the Sareng Hotel, adjacent to Gate No. 2 of the university.

Residents gathered around 11 p.m. around that issue. Meanwhile, the students of the university counter-attacked. They vandalized the furniture in the hotel. In this incident, there were repeated chases, stick-hand showdowns, and brick-throwing on the streets for a long time.

At one stage of the clash, locals pelted stones at the roadside rooms of Bangmata Hall of the university. It broke the windows of some rooms. Apart from this, the locals attacked the students’ messes adjacent to Gate No. 2 and Battala. After getting more excited, the students also attacked and vandalized the Sareng Hotel. Later, Trishal Police Station, Proctoral Body members, and other teachers went to the spot and controlled the situation.

Sanjay Kumar Mukherjee, proctor of the university, said that the undesirable situation that has arisen is normal now. University administration and local police arrived and brought the situation under control.
