Special Correspondent: When Ramadan comes, a class of businessmen cut the pockets of people by increasing the price of goods. Since the election, prices of commodities including rice, dal, oil, sugar, and onions have gone wild without control. As a result, people’s breath will rise in the month of Ramadan. Referring to these issues, the Chittagong Journalists Association (Chasas) has called upon the government to take effective measures to control the prices of goods during Ramadan.

In a statement sent to the media on Wednesday (March 13), the organization’s president, Syed Didar Ashrafi, and general secretary, Osman Ehtesam, called for this.

According to the statement, there has been an unbridled rise in commodity prices for several months. The situation is the same in the wholesale markets during the month of Ramadan. In this situation, there is no doubt that if the profiteering syndicate traders cannot be controlled, there will be a dire crisis. Recently, the district administration conducted an operation in Khatunganj, Chittagong, one of the largest wholesale markets of consumer goods in the country. Almost every product there is being sold for double the price of buying it. During the campaign, it is seen that cardamom worth Tk 1450 is being sold at Tk 3100.

When the price of daily necessities increases, the poor and low-income working people suffer the most. The middle class also suffered. Chasas leaders feel that effective measures should be taken to control the prices of goods in this Ramadan month so that the prices of goods are under control and all levels of people, including laborers, benefit.

Calling traders not to increase food prices during Ramadan, the statement said that this month is a month of mutual help and compassion. If the prices of daily commodities are high, the poor, orphans, helpless, and ordinary fasting people of society cannot have Iftar and Sehri, even if they want to. Therefore, to keep the price of goods under control during Ramadan, the fasting people are urged to provide special support during Iftar Sehri.
