Dhaka Bureau: Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu and Sohail Haider Chowdhury tied with an equal number of votes for the post of President of Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ) Executive Council Election 2024. Akhtar Hossain was elected general secretary.
The results, signed by Farid Hossain, Chairman of the DUJ Election Management Committee, were released on Monday (March 11). It can be seen that both Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu and Sohel Haider Chowdhury got 812 votes for the post of president. Akhtar Hossain was elected by getting 637 votes. His nearest rival, A Jihadur Rahman Jihad, got 592 votes.
Besides, Nazrul Islam Mithu was elected as senior vice president with 741 votes, Ibrahim Khalil Khokon was elected as vice president with 523 votes, and Md. was elected as joint secretary with 514 votes. Shah Jahan Mia. His nearest rival, Asaduzzaman, got 512 votes. There was a close fight for this position, with a difference of only 2 votes. Soheli Chowdhury was elected as Treasurer with 550 votes, Golam Mujtaba Dhrub was elected as Organizing Secretary with 947 votes, Asadur Rahman was elected as Legal Secretary with 876 votes, Muhammad Mamun Sheikh with 748 votes as Publicity and Publication Secretary, and Jannatul Ferdous Chowdhury as Office Secretary with 717 votes. Shahjahan Swapan was elected as welfare secretary, Dulal Khan as sports and cultural secretary with 574 votes, and Sumi Khan as women affairs secretary with 607 votes.
Seven people were elected as executive council members. They are GM Masud Dhali, Nasreen Begum Giti, AM Shahjahan Mia, Anwar Sadat Sabuj, Sajeda Haque, Ahmed Mushfika Nazneen, and Rarzana Sultana.
It should be noted that the election was held today from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in a festive atmosphere. Out of a total of 2837 voters, 1831 voters exercised their right to vote.
