Dhaka Bureau: Two persons sentenced to death in the murder case of Faisal Arefin Dipan, the proprietor of Jagriti Prakashani, have escaped from the premises of the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Dhaka.
This incident happened on Sunday (November 20) afternoon. The escaped convicts are members of the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam.
They are Abu Siddique Sohail alias Shakib alias Sajid alias Shahab and Mainul Hasan Shamim alias Sameer alias Imran.
Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal Additional PP Golam Charwar Khan Zakir said that after the proceedings of the case, the accused were taken down from the court. They then fled from the gate of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
It is to be noted that on October 31, 2015, Faisal Arefin Dipan was murdered in his office of Aziz Super Market in Shahbagh of the capital. That afternoon his wife filed a murder case at Shahbag police station. On November 15, 2018, the investigation officer of the case, DB South Assistant Commissioner of Police Fazlur Rahman filed the charge sheet under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Death sentence has been given to 8 accused including expelled Major Syed Ziaul Haque Zia in this case.
