Rangamati Correspondent: Football World Cup starts today in Qatar. There is a frenzy going on in the hill towns around the World Cup. The supporters of Argentina and Brazil beat the city of Rangamati with a motorcycle procession. Apart from hanging flags on roofs or walls of houses, two bridges of the city are also painted in the colors of the flags of Argentina and Brazil. The names of the two bridges have changed.

There are two bridges near the city. A Y-shaped bridge connecting Brahmantila and Rirjav Bazar in Jhululapara area. After its construction, it became known as the Argentina Bridge because of its blue-white color. The people of the city know the bridge as Argentina Bridge. In the afternoon, the two sides of the bridge become lively with the chatter of people of different ages.

Brazil fans are no less. Since the naming of the Argentina bridge, many Brazilian supporters have demanded that the Asambasti bridge in the city be painted in the colors of the Brazilian flag. At one point the municipality painted the bridge yellow-green. Since then this bridge of Asambasti also got the name of Brazil bridge.

Some are putting flags on the roof to support their favorite team. On the other hand, as there is joy and excitement among the supporters about the color and naming of the two bridges, they also do not make a mistake to cut tips about each other’s bridge. Brazil’s supporters say that there is no obligation to change the color of the bridge to blue-blue, but Argentina fans are being given extra benefits by changing the color of the bridge to blue-blue.

In this regard, Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Executive Engineer Tushit Chakma said, many people think that we are supporters of Argentina due to the blue and white color of Brahmantila and Jhululapara connecting bridge in Rirzav Bazar. He said that he is thinking of painting some bridges yellow-green due to the demands of local Brazilian supporters.

Rangamati Municipal Mayor Akbar Hossain Chowdhury said, I have not become a Brazil supporter even though the Asambasti bridge has been painted in the color of the Brazilian flag in the face of the demands of the supporters of Brazil due to the Y-shaped connecting bridge being painted in the color of the Argentine flag in Brahmantila and Jhululapara areas of the city’s reserve market, I am still a supporter of Argentina!
