Nagar Reporter: The fire at S. Alam Sugar Mill in Karnaphuli is still not fully extinguished. The fire in the warehouse of the factory was seen on Tuesday (March 5) around 7:30 a.m. However, the fire did not spread from the warehouse.

MD Abdul Malek, Assistant Director of Chittagong Fire Service, said that the fire was brought under control around 11 p.m. The fire will not spread from here. We are trying to put out the fire completely.

Earlier on Monday (March 4) at 3:53 PM, a fire broke out at S Alam Sugar Industries sugar mill in Chittagong’s Karnaphuli Thana area. S Alam Super Refined Sugar Industries Limited imported a huge amount of sugar around the month of Ramzan. One lakh metric tons of refined and unrefined sugar were stored in that sugar mill.

After the fire broke out in the afternoon, it burned for four hours. Later, 15 units from five fire service stations started working to control the fire. When firefighters struggle, members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard join in fighting the blaze. Apart from this, a large number of RAB and police personnel were deployed at the scene.

How much sugar has already been burned will be known for sure after extinguishing the fire. Officials of the sugar mill believe that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit.
