Dhaka Bureau: Minister of Textiles and Jute and Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP, said that the anti-plastic campaign will be strengthened to protect the environment after fasting. However, before this, a meeting will be held with the relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change, and activities to discourage plastic bag users will be undertaken.
He said these things in response to the questions of the journalists after the session of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute at the Deputy Commissioner Conference 2024. At this time, Minister of State for Labor and Employment Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Md. Abdur Rauf, and others were present.
In response to the question of the journalists, What do you expect from the district administrators? The minister said, “I expect the intervention of the field administration officials to strengthen the implementation of the ‘Compulsory Use of Jute Wraps in Products Act, 2010’.” We request that effective steps be taken to prevent farmers from being deprived of the fair price of jute due to violence by middlemen.
Asked what the district administrators have recommended to you, the minister said the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) mills have been put under the control of the government to start the mills quickly. He also advised maintaining the supply of good-quality jute seeds at the beginning of the jute season.
