Chandnaish Correspondent: Harla Cooperative Government Primary School, located in front of Chandnaish Upazila Parishad, is one of the oldest educational institutions. This school was established in 1918. At present, with 260 students and 10 teachers, the institution has turned into a dilapidated state due to a lack of maintenance and proper monitoring by the concerned authorities. Last year there were 273 students, and the previous year there were about 300 students, but the number of students has started decreasing gradually.

The school initially started with 1 tin-roofed building, but a total of 3 buildings were constructed in 1993 with 3 rooms, 1 with 2 rooms in 2003, and 2 in 2010. All three rooms of the original academy building built in 1993 are dilapidated. In this building, the teaching of young students is going on at risk. Despite repeatedly informing the concerned authorities about this issue, there was no solution to the problem. With the risk of life, the teachers and students are continuing their studies in this building, with the highest attendance of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd classes in the 1st shift. In such a situation, parents are suffering from worry and anxiety by sending their children to this school in a dangerous building.

On Monday (March 4), it was found that the roof of the school building, along with the standing poles, were falling apart and the rods were coming out. When it rains a little, water drips from the roof. Numerous cracks have also appeared on the walls. Teaching is going on with students under such risk and fear.

Many students, including Pratithi Podhar and Priyanti Sheel, students of the 3rd class of the school, said that many had to be admitted to this school in fear because it was near their father’s workplace. Parents are afraid to send them to school because their school is too risky. Fear during stormy days and driving. At this time, when teachers teach, their attention goes to the ceiling. They have to attend classes in fear all the time.

Archana Shusheel, the head teacher of the school, said that, seeing that this responsibility is pressing on her shoulders when an accident occurs during the class, she has asked Kanchanabad Cluster Assistant Education Officer Jeevan Kanai Sarkar many times to take quick action. On his own initiative, he has been lobbying various departments related to education with the demands of renovation and full construction of buildings. As there is no solution, the class is forced to continue. The number of students is also decreasing day by day, as many students at the school do not attend classes due to fear of risk. Parents and locals claim that the school needs a new building to make it suitable for teaching.

Chandnaish Upazila Primary Education Officer is in charge in this regard. Ilyach Hossain said that the government has been making necessary improvements by collecting the list of vulnerable buildings in the form of a table every year to convert all schools into smart institutions on a priority basis. By fixing the last date on March 4 of this year, we are completing the data collection by instructing the head teachers to send the list of dangerous buildings in the upazila.
