Comilla Correspondent: Sumaiya Akhter (18), a housewife, committed suicide by twisting her veil around her neck while keeping her husband on a video call in Chandina, Comilla. The incident took place in Tetuia village of Mohichail Union of the upazila on Saturday (March 2) morning.
Sumaiya Akhtar is the daughter of Babul Mia, a resident of that village. Her husband’s house is in Mohammadpur (Lona) village in Barura upazila. Her husband, Mizanur Rahman, is a resident of Malaysia.
Rahima Begum, the mother of the deceased, said that Sumaiya got married to Mizanur five months ago. However, since marriage, she has had an affair with her husband. Suspicious of Sumayya, Mizan often misbehaves on mobile. On Saturday, Sumaiya revealed the leak by keeping her husband on a video call.
This reporter tried to contact Mizanur Rahman on the phone to find out about this. But knowing the identity of the journalist, he hung up the phone without saying anything.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandina police station, Ahmed Sanjur Morshed, said that the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem. The victim’s mother filed a wrongful death case at the police station. Further legal action is pending in this matter.
