Chandpur Correspondent: About 43 thousand registered fishermen are coming under a ban on all kinds of fishing for the two months of March–April to protect jatka and implement shelter in the Padma-Meghna river of Chandpur.
The district and upazila task force will implement shelters in an area of about 70 km from Shatanal of Matlab Uttar Upazila to Charbhairabi of Haimchar Upazila.
According to the district fisheries department, to increase the production of hilsa, the government bans all types of fish, including jatka, in the refuge area for two months from March 1 to April 30 every year. District and upazila task force meetings have already been held to implement this government program. Awareness meetings have been held with the participation of fishermen in Padma-Meghna coastal fishing villages. The executive magistrate assigned to the task force will take strict action against fishermen who violate the law and collect fish from the river.
Jalal Dewan and Hriday Hussain, jailers of Meghna Coastal Jail District, said that they obeyed the government ban. But the food aid provided by the government does not support their families. Then they have debt. They have no alternative source of income as they have become unemployed at this time. They demanded to increase government cooperation.

Chandpur Sadar Upazila is the senior fisheries officer. Tanjimul Islam said that strict measures will be taken if any fisherman disobeys the law and enters the river. The task force will conduct regular operations to protect Jatka.
Chandpur District Fisheries Officer. Gola Mehdi Hasan said that the fishermen who refrained from catching jatka for the two months of March-April will be given food assistance of 40 kg for 4 months. The distribution of rice has already started in the Union. Maximum effort will continue to implement the decisions of the District Task Force to protect Jatka.
