Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that those who use more electricity will have to pay more. He said that the use of electricity should be economical. Electricity costs a lot to produce. But we are subsidizing. But from now on, those who use more will have to pay more. I want to do it that way.
He said this while attending the National Local Government Day-2024 celebration at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Sunday (February 25).
Addressing the public representatives, the Prime Minister said that I have rehabilitated them. Check them out. It benefits you. If you gain their trust, you will get their vote in the election. People’s representatives have to earn the trust of the people. Also, look out for community clinics. So that things are done properly. So that medicines are dispensed appropriately. If you take care of that, people will benefit.
Before taking on any project, see if it will be useful or not. The project should be thought of not for the benefit of individuals but for public welfare, he said.
Sheikh Hasina said that due to the impact of the Corona and Russia-Ukraine wars, import costs have increased. The price went up. That’s why I called everyone since then; everyone has to produce. Not even an inch of land should remain uncultivated.
Highlighting the importance of integrated farming through cooperatives, the Prime Minister said that canals and rivers must be protected. If you see a pond, you have to build a house there. We need reservoirs. Rainwater should be conserved.
He said, We are providing water. Filters are provided there. Once they are done, they will not last forever. The public representatives should keep an eye on it. It needs to be cleaned, renovated, and preserved. It should be done by public representatives. Government officials work for a certain period of time, after which it is over. But public representatives have a responsibility; they have to see. However, government officials will also look into the matter to see whether it is cleared within a certain period.
