Sherpur’s 3 Razakar verdict today

Sherpur Correspondent: The judgment of three Razakars of Sherpur’s Nakla Upazila will be announced today in the case brought against them for crimes against humanity, including murder and genocide committed during the Liberation War. International Criminal Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. A three-member judicial panel headed by Shahinur Islam fixed Sunday (February 11) for the verdict.

After the hearing on January 24, the tribunal kept the case pending (CAV) for judgment. Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman was for the prosecution. Lawyers Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar and Abdus Sattar Palawan handled the case for the accused.

The investigation agency of the International Criminal Tribunal submitted a report on July 26, 2017 after investigating the allegations of crimes against humanity during the liberation war against the four Razakars of the district. A formal charge was filed with the tribunal on October 31 of the same year.

On August 30, 2018, the tribunal ordered the trial to begin by forming charges against the accused on four charges. Among the four accused, one, named Emdadul Haq Khawaja, died during the trial. The three accused in jail are Aminuzzaman Farooq, Mokhlesur Rahman, alias Tara, and AKM Akram Hossain.

Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman told the media that 13 people have testified against the accused. I have been able to prove four charges against them. The prosecutor expressed hope that they would be given maximum punishment in the verdict.
