Sitakunda Correspondent: There has been a collision of a sanding engine with the Chittagong-bound Karnaphuli Express at Faujdarhat in Sitakunda Upazila. The incident took place on Wednesday (February 7) around 7 p.m. while crossing the level crossing in front of Faujdarhat Cadet College. A total of three people, including the locomaster, were injured.
The injured are Karnaphuli Express Locomaster Mohammad Ali, Assistant Locomaster Nazrul Islam, and Engine Locomaster Sabuj Chowdhury. The first two, and then the third, were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
It is reported that the Karnaphuli Express was heading towards Chittagong after receiving clearance from the Faujdarhat station master. On the other hand, a shunting engine on the same line was being taken to the CGPY yard. Meanwhile, the train hit another empty engine on the same line while passing through the Faujdarhat area and crossing the level crossing at Cadet College Gate. Immediately, two wheels of the train derailed.
In this regard, Faujdarhat GRP outpost in-charge S.I. Farooq Hossain confirmed the truth of the incident and said that while the Chittagong-bound Karnaphuli Express was crossing the Faujdarhat Cadet College area, the wheel of the Karnaphuli Express derailed when it hit the back of an empty engine running at a slow speed on the same line. Two drivers of the train were injured. Later, they were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. After the incident, Chittagong-bound train services were stopped from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Train movement on other lines was normal from 8:00 p.m. on, but work was going on to repair the line due to the accident.
