Mobile court raids, five people sentenced to life imprisonment, and two dump trucks impounded

Satkania Correspondent: In Satkania of Chittagong, a mobile court raided various places in the dark of night and arrested five people for the crime of cutting the topsoil of agricultural land and sentenced them to various terms of imprisonment. Meanwhile, two unnumbered dump trucks used for soil transportation were seized. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Milton Biswas led the operation from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. last Monday.

According to the office of the Upazila Executive Officer, in the operation conducted in Khagria, Kanchana, and Dhemsha Union of the Upazila under the leadership of UNO, five persons under the Balu Mahal and Soil Management Act 2010 have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment without labor.

The convicts are Md. of South Charti area of Charti Union of Upazila. Mohammad Arafat (28) son of Kamal Uddin (10 days), Tofail Ahmed son of deceased Tofail Ahmed of Khagria Union Ward No. 1 of Khagria Union Touhidul Alam Babul (43), (10 days), and Abdul Majid of Ward No. 8 of Hasimpur Union of Chandnaish Upazila died. Son Siddique Ahmad (50), (5 days), Md. Shahadat (20), son of Mohammad Babul of Maizdi of Noakhali district (15 days), and Mohammad Azamgir (32) son of Amir Hamza of Ward No. 5 North Dhemsha area of Dhemsha Union (15 days).

UNO Milton Biswas said no one will be allowed to illegally excavate soil by destroying Satkania agricultural land. The Upazila administration will continue this operation day and night in the public interest.
