Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Ghumdhum in Naikxyongchari Upazila of Bandarban in the border area across the border has become extremely dangerous for the residents of that area due to the ongoing internal conflict in Myanmar. It is known that at least 400 Chakma community residents of those areas bordering Bangladesh are waiting to enter Bangladesh at the risk of their lives. A number of Rohingyas are also gathering at the border.

Cox’s Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) confirmed the matter. Mizanur Rahman. He said that near the Ghumdhum border of Bandarban’s Naikshyongchari, the government forces of the country and the insurgent group Arakan Army have been fighting intermittently, and shelling continues inside Myanmar.

Md. Mizanur Rahman said that 400 Chakmas living on the Myanmar border are waiting to enter Bangladesh due to food shortages and risks. But again, no one from Myanmar will be allowed to enter Bangladesh. That is why law enforcement has been alerted.

Earlier on Sunday (February 5) at noon, a Rohingya family of five tried to infiltrate through Hoikung Ulubnia Point in Teknaf. Later, BGB returned them.

Teknaf battalion commander Lt. Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed said that a family of Rohingya tried to infiltrate through Hoikung Ulubnia Point. BGB pushed them back. The BGB is in a strict position to prevent Rohingyas from entering Bangladesh through the border.

Meanwhile, due to ongoing unrest in the border area, five government primary schools on the border of Ghumdhum Union have been declared closed.
