Dhaka Bureau: The schedule of voting for reserved seats for women in the 12th National Parliament will be announced on Tuesday (February 6). Before announcing the schedule, the Election Commission (EC) will fix the dates for the submission of nomination papers, verification, finalization, and polling. The ruling Awami League will compete for the 50 reserved women’s seats in Parliament in alliance with the partners of 14 parties.
This time, independent candidates have expressed their support for the ruling party. The EC will hold a meeting on the schedule of reserved seats for women on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal will preside over the meeting. The schedule will be announced after the commission meeting.
EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath confirmed the matter and told the media that the polling schedule for 50 reserved seats for women will be announced on Tuesday. Everything will be explained after the commission meeting.
According to the Election Rules, there is an obligation to prepare a separate list of members of political parties or alliances in the elections to reserve female seats within 30 working days of the gazette of the parliamentary election results.
However, this time, as independents won more than half a hundred seats, there was a heated discussion about the reserved seats for women. Independents have left the responsibility of nomination to the Prime Minister for the reserved seats, leaving two seats. The Jatiya Party will nominate women candidates for these seats as the opposition party in parliament.
