Guidelines on the digitization of cable services will be developed soon

Dhaka Bureau: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Arafat said that guidelines will be prepared soon for the digitization of cable services.

The State Minister said these things during an exchange of views with the leaders of the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh in the meeting room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.

At this time, the state minister said that discipline will be brought in all areas, including cable television broadcasting and OTT platforms. Guidelines for digitization of cable services will be prepared shortly. Besides, quick action will be taken to stop the violation and disruption of cable television broadcasting. In this case, the issue of national security will also be considered.

He further said that every stakeholder involved in cable television broadcasting is in favor of digitization. There is no obstacle to this. So the government will try to do it quickly. Digitization will bring more revenue to the government and much more transparency.

In response to a question from journalists regarding the OTT platform, the state minister said that the government welcomes any advancement in technology, including the OTT platform. But action will be taken where laws are broken and rules are broken. At the same time, national interest and security will be ensured. With the advancement of technology comes some kind of risk, and those areas will also be considered quickly.

He also said that technology should be welcomed. There should also be a mindset to accept the changes that technology is bringing. It is also important to have a positive mindset to adopt technology.

The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting said that we cannot allow any violation of existing laws in the country. Law and national security will be the highest priorities for the government. The ministry will take a decision based on that. The State Minister also emphasized inter-ministerial coordination and communication in this regard.

Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh president ABM Saiful Hossain, general secretary Mosharraf Ali Chanchal, and members Nizam Uddin Masud, Rashid Malik, Farid Uddin, and Habib Ali were present.

The State Minister had an exchange of views with the leaders of the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association in the afternoon.
