In Parliament, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader proposed the name of Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury as Speaker. Awami League Parliamentary Party Secretary and Chief Whip Noor-e Alam Chowdhury Liton supported the proposal. There were no other nominations for speakers. Later, the Speaker was elected by voice vote. The Deputy Speaker announced that Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected unanimously and unopposed.
