Dhaka Bureau: The International Water Conference is starting for the ninth time in the country today, on Wednesday. The two-day-long conference organized by Action Aid Bangladesh will end on Thursday. This time the theme of the conference is ‘Water, Rivers, and Climate Change: Building Resilience’.
Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony of this conference organized at the Six Seasons Hotel in Gulshan, the capital. Ibrahim Khalil Al Zayed, Chairperson of Action Aid Bangladesh; Farah Kabir, Country Director; Nardiya Simpson, Australia High Commissioner (acting) assigned to Bangladesh; Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University; and Director of the Center for Genocide Studies will speak. Experts say it will help bring together women, men, youth groups, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities of water justice and river management in the context of climate change. Moreover, in line with the previous eight international water conferences, the conference will recommend meaningful options that can contribute to the creation of water justice at the national and international levels.
