The Crime Desk: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for forming the government for the fourth time in a row and praised her leadership. On Sunday (January 21) afternoon in Kampala, Uganda, in the sideline meeting of the third China-South Summit, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud met him.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General mentioned Bangladesh’s role in reforming the structure of the global economy as important. He also praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for championing several global processes led by the United Nations.
In the meeting, the Secretary General briefed Dr. Hasan Mahmud. He said that a free, fair, and peaceful election was held with the participation of the people. In addition, on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmoud praised the brave and important role of the UN Secretary General in ending the war in Gaza, Palestine. Besides, the minister requested that Antonio Guterres keep the Rohingya issue at the top of the agenda of the United Nations.
Referring to the golden jubilee year of Bangladesh’s membership in the United Nations in 2024, Dr. Hasan Mahmood emphasized the need to celebrate it properly. He invited Guterrez to come to Bangladesh.
In a letter written to Sheikh Hasina on January 19, the UN Secretary General said that the United Nations deeply appreciates the partnership of the United Nations with Bangladesh, the contribution of Bangladesh in peacekeeping operations, the kindness shown by Bangladesh to the Rohingya refugees, and the success achieved by Bangladesh in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The UN Secretary General also thanked Sheikh Hasina for participating in the Global Crisis Response Group and Trust.
It should be noted that the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda, the 77-nation group, and the third southern summit of China are leading the Bangladesh delegation. Hasan Mahmud.
