Dhaka Bureau: Initiatives have been taken to stop unregistered mobile sets to ensure collection of government revenue and prevent theft and illegal use of used mobile phones. It will be implemented soon.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued a notification confirming the matter on Sunday (January 21).
According to the notification, every mobile phone has to be registered by tagging with a national identity card and a registered SIM card through BTRC. To ensure receipt and delivery of government services, to ensure revenue collection by the government by stopping the use of illegally manufactured and imported mobile phones, and to prevent theft and illegal use of used mobile phones, BTRC NEIR activities have been initiated in full swing.
The notification also said that illegal mobile phones will be disconnected from the network soon. Therefore, everyone is also requested to verify its validity before purchasing the mobile handset.
Please note that before purchasing the mobile handset, the validity of the handset can be verified by writing the KYD<space> 15-digit IMEI number (e.g., KYD 123456789012345) to 16002 from the message option.
