Jessore Correspondent: BGB members arrested two persons with 112 gold bars weighing 16 kg 512 grams in Benapole of Sharsha Upazila of Jessore. The value of seized gold is Tk 15 crore 65 lakh. Jessore 49 BGB battalion captain Lt. confirmed the matter. Colonel Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui.
They were detained from Benapole Amrakhali BGB check post on Wednesday (November 16) around 10:30 pm. The arrested are Omar Farooq (27) son of Manu Mia of Daudkandi area of Comilla and Farhad Sarkar (32) son of Barek Sarkar of Kalipur Bazar area of Matleb Uor police station of Chandpur district.
Jessore 49 BGB battalion captain Lt. confirmed the matter. Colonel Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui said, a suspect pickup van was stopped at Amrakhali check post on Benapole highway. At that time, 112 gold bars weighing 16 kg 512 grams were recovered by searching the pickup van. The estimated market value of recovered gold is around 15 crore 65 lakhs.
In response to another question, he said that due to the high demand for gold in neighboring India, smugglers try to smuggle gold across the border. He also said that legal action will be taken against the arrested accused.
