Chakria Office: Four armed men were arrested by the people while storming an enclosure in Chakria in Cox’s Bazar. Meanwhile, a country-made long gun and one round of cartridges were recovered from their custody. The incident happened last Saturday (January 13) at around 12:30 PM in Kiaradia area of Chingri Zone of the upazila. Later, the local mob handed over the arrested four persons to Chakaria Police Station along with weapons. Chakaria police station OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali confirmed the matter.
Local people said that around 12:30 pm on Saturday night, a group of armed men attacked a shrimp enclosure in an area called Kiarardiya near Chowarfari of West Baraveola Union under Shrimp Zone of the upazila. At that time, people from the surrounding enclosure came forward and chased the armed men on the shouts of the guards and employees of the enclosure. At one stage, the people present on the way to escape arrested four people from the spot.
Meanwhile, a country-made long gun and one round of cartridges were recovered from their custody. After getting information, a case of Chakaria police station reached the spot and took the four people to the police station.
The accused are Abdul Mabud (32) son of Nuruchchafa of Saharbil Union of Chakaria Upazila, Imtiaz (28) son of Abdul Aziz of Darbeshkata area of West Baraveola Union, Nurul Abshar (32) son of Nurul Islam of Badarkhali Union and Emdad (30) son of Chaber Ahmad of Konakhali Union.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Ali said that during the seizure attempt in Chingri Zone, four armed men were arrested from the spot with the help of the public and a country-made long gun and one round of cartridges were recovered from their custody.
The OC said that a case has been filed against the arrested under the Arms Act. They have been sent to Chakaria Upazila Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Sunday.
