Chittagong South Representative: Although it was decided to start an inter-city train on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar route, it could not be started due to engine shortage. Now railway is going to start commuter train instead of intercity.
Two pairs of commuter trains are being started on this route from next month. Although the schedule has not been fixed yet, the Eastern Railway Mechanical Department and Transport Department have made all preparations to start the train. 720 passengers can go in the 12 compartment commuter train. It will come to Chittagong twice a day from Cox’s Bazar and go to Cox’s Bazar from Chittagong, said Railway Eastern Divisional Manager Engineer Saiful Islam. In this regard, Railway Eastern Divisional Manager Engineer Saiful Islam said, “We have made all preparations to launch a commuter train on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar route from February.” I will prepare the engine in the meantime. It will continue from February, that’s for sure. Will come and go four times. A lot of passengers can come and go. The commuter train will stop at every station on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar route and passengers will be able to transfer. This train will have 12 coaches. Commuter trains are all non-AC.
After the Cox’s Bazar Express, the second train Tourist Express has been launched on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route. In keeping with these two trains, concerned railway officials said to start an inter-city train from Chittagong considering the demand of passengers. But the inter-city train is unlikely to run for now. Taking that into consideration, commuter trains are also being launched on the Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong route next month. Authorities said that two commuter trains will run on this newly constructed railway every day.
It should be noted that on November 11, 2023, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the newly constructed Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway and iconic railway station. Then on December 1, the first inter-city train Cox’s Bazar Express traveled commercially on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route. As Cox’s Bazar is a tourist city, the demand of passengers on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route increases several times. Considering the demand of the passengers, the railway authorities added another train named Turisa Express on this route on 10th of this month.
Considering the demand of local passengers, from Cox’s Bazar to Ramu, Islamabad, Dullahazara, Chakria, Harbang, Dohazari and other stations including Chittagong; On the other hand, on the way from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar, the train will go to Cox’s Bazar via Boalkhali, Patia, Dohazari, Satkania-Lohagara, Harbang, Islamabad, Chakaria, Ramu.
