Mizbaul Haq, Chakria: Armed robbers attacked a shrimp enclosure in Chakria upazila of Cox’s Bazar, and shot and killed a person named Mohammad Hossain (58). The attack took place on Tuesday around two o’clock in the morning. Chakaria police recovered the body of the victim from the spot on Wednesday (January 10) morning. The deceased Mohammad Hossain is the son of deceased Abul Khair of Chankhola Para area of Hoanak Union of Maheshkhali Upazila.
Mohammad Hossain is a member of Rampur Cooperative Agricultural Colony Association of Chakaria Upazila, confirmed by President Abu Zafar and Secretary Shahidul Islam Liton.
Rampur Cooperative Agricultural Colony Association President Abu Jafar and Secretary Shahidul Islam Liton said, the prawn enclosure owned by our association has been occupied by armed bandits for a long time. Finally, on January 8, various unions of Chakaria upazila, Maheshkhali Kutubdia and Banshkhali upazila residents’ associations joined forces and went to the perimeter of the association and chased away the encroaching robbers.
The members of the association then started living in prefabricated houses on the embankment of the enclosure and maintained the shrimp enclosure. In the meantime, at around 10 o’clock on Tuesday night, the chased robbers came in boats and started attacking the perimeter of Artakit Samiti. At one point the robbers started firing like rain.
President of the association Abu Zafar and secretary Shahidul Islam Liton claimed that the bandits fired shots intermittently from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Some of the members of the association tried to save their lives by swimming in the nearby river and trying to save their lives. In the meantime, member of the association Mohammad Hossain was shot by robbers in the dark of the night and fell on the ground. After the robbers left, the body of the member of the association Mohammad Hossain was found near the shrimp fence yesterday morning and the Chakaria Police was informed.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Ali said, I and Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Chakaria Circle) Rakib ur Raza went to the spot on Wednesday morning. Later, a police team recovered the dead body from the spot. After preparing the preliminary condition report, the body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
The OC said that it is believed that the person was killed by the robber. The deceased was shot in the back of the body above the waist. If a statement is received about the incident, a case will be filed in this regard. Besides, we are making efforts to arrest the robbers involved in the incident.
