Dhaka Bureau: If the Awami League forms the government in the next national elections, party president Sheikh Hasina has promised in a manifesto that corrupt people will be punished through the judicial system and their illegal assets will be confiscated.
He made this promise during the announcement of the Awami League’s manifesto for the 12th national parliament election at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday (December 27).
Sheikh Hasina said that effective measures will be taken against money launderers, corruption, and bribery at all levels of the state and society. Prevention of unearned income, debt-tax-bill defaulters, and corrupt people will be punished through the judicial system, and their illegal money and property will be confiscated.
Pointing out that import and export trade will be balanced, he said that, as a result, uncertainty in the supply of foreign exchange will be reduced. It will be ensured that strict laws will be enforced in the recovery of defaulted loans and that the bank keeps the prescribed reserves in this case. The Awami League will continue to emphasize the importance of the private sector in economic development. Where appropriate, public and private sector joint investment opportunities will be utilized.
