A new decision on army deployment

Dhaka Bureau: A new decision has been taken regarding the deployment of the army in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. According to the EC, the Armed Forces Department of the Prime Minister’s Office has ordered the recruitment of armed forces in 300 parliamentary constituencies from January 3 to 10. This information is known from a letter sent from the Armed Forces Department on Sunday (December 24).

In the letter, it was informed that, in view of the Election Commission’s request to conduct the 12th National Assembly elections in a free, fair, impartial, and peaceful manner in order to provide assistance to the local civil administration under the In Aid to the Civil Power in all 300 constituencies of Bangladesh from January 3 to January 10 (travel period except), orders were issued for the recruitment of armed forces.

Since the allocation of symbols on December 18, the candidates have been busy campaigning. They can campaign until 8 a.m. on January 5. Voting will be held on January 7. A total of 1,900 candidates from 27 political parties are contesting the election.

Earlier on December 18, the EC informed us that the armed forces will be on duty in the election field from December 29.

In this election, seven and a half lakh members of law and order forces will work in the polling field. Among them are 516,000 Ansar members, 182,911 police and RAB members, 2,350 Coast Guard members, and 46,876 BGB members.
