City Reporter: With the recovery of rare 2 kg wild elephant tusks worth crores of rupees from the Firingi Bazar area of the metropolis. RAB 7 has arrested a trafficker named Shahnewaz Bablu (35).
On Monday (December 25) at noon, RAB 7 sent this information to the media in a circular.
Earlier on December 24, he was arrested after a special check post was set up on the paved road in the Firingi Bazar area under the Kotwali police station.
Shahnewaz Babul is the son of deceased Idris of Merangloa area under Ramu Thana of Cox’s Bazar district.
According to the RAB notification, a special check post was set up on the road in the Firingi Bazar area, and he was arrested on the news that he was illegally collecting wild elephant tusks from Cox’s Bazar and bringing them to Chittagong for sale.
At that time, two wild elephant teeth were recovered from inside a bag with him.
For a long time, he has been illegally collecting the skins and ivory of various wild animals from the hilly areas of Cox’s Bazar district and selling them at high prices in different parts of the country, including Chittagong. The estimated value of the two recovered wild elephant tusks is Tk 1 crore.
According to RAB, the arrested person has been handed over to the Kotwali police station after taking legal action.
